Why not Europe?

I am on a roll today eh?

Well, given my background and current business (which involves a lot of Europe), I am asked often - Why not European schools?

In the beginning of this process, I was heavily inclined towards LBS and Insead. LBS because it is in a big-big city and a great school and in Europe. INSEAD, because I hear the alumni network is amazing and the short experience surprisingly satisfactory. I dropped both of them from my R1 selection. Why?

First some background
I am an entrepreneur at heart. Come what may, I know that one day I will start my own company and rock the world. Also, I am a techie at heart. Although I have been in the "Agri" business for 4 years now, at every given opportunity I have dabbled in tech.

The one big drawback of European B Schools is that they are just B Schools - stand alone B Schools. This means that you have no opportunities to interact with students of other schools and no chance to attend classes from other schools. The US univs kill in these aspects. In most of the univs, you have a chance to interact with students from Medicine, Engineering, Law, Humanities, Music, and even Archeology! You are also given the freedom to attend classes in any of these schools and more if you like. This allows for immense opportunities in cross collaboration and cross thinking. I find this just amazing. This kind of setting is ideal for an entrep.!

The above lends itself naturally to the second point that if you want to do so much while in business schools you need 2 years (1 yr 8 months to be precise). You cannot possibly think of achieving so much in a short 1 year or 10 months (INSEAD)!

Therefore, not Europe.

Europe is ideal if you are in a set career path and want to return to the same after B School. In this case, just go for INSEAD with eyes closed !

Also, Europe is ideal if you are traveloholic ! I dream of a Utopia in which you could study in US and work in Europe.
